Arts & Culture

There is a thriving arts and cultural community across the Horsham District ranging from community arts festivals and Open Studio promotions to professional exhibitions, classical concerts and theatre arts. In 2011 a Horsham District Arts Group was established as a partnership between Horsham District Council, the Contemporary Arts Group and other local groups and artists. Together the group aims to help raise standards in public art and encourage support for all local artists, groups and businesses.

Theatre, Music, Cinema and Drama

The Capitol, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RG.
The Capitol is the Horsham District's key arts venue offering unrivalled facilities including a 423 seat theatre, 2 cinemas, an art gallery, studio (seating up to 100),  meeting room and stylish café and lounge bar. The venue is also available for public hire.

Lovers of music and drama are also sure to find something to appeal in each term’s programme of events at Christ’s Hospital School, held in both the Theatre and the truly stunning buildings around the site. Opening hours are Mon-Fri 9.30am-12pm term time only.

Art Galleries

A new Art Gallery and a separate Arts and Crafts Gallery are now on offer in Horsham Museum and Gallery, with many of the objects for sale either on site or by auction.  The Museum itself can be considered a work of art as it is housed in a medieval timber-framed merchant’s house with 26 galleries and exhibition spaces and two walled gardens.  Temporary exhibitions take place throughout the year.  The Capitol (see above) also exhibits a rolling programme of local art in its gallery space on the first floor.

Arts Workshops: For those who want to get more actively involved in the arts Horsham District Council can help you to find creative workshops for adults and children covering a range of ativities from art and drama to disc jockey workshops and recording your own CD.  Details of this and other arts activities  as well as support available to local artists, craftspeople, musicians and community arts groups can be found via Horsham District Council's Leisure Link

West Sussex Library Service Local Societies and Organisations

This database gives details of over 4,000 local clubs and organisations in the West Sussex area. Here you can find a wide range of clubs and societies from knitting to karate, Scouts to Scottish dancing, fishing to flower arranging and lots more.

The database is also a good way of publicising your own group. If you represent an organisation that is not currently included in the database, you can ask for a form at any West Sussex Library or print off a New Entry Form from the Library Service website.

Many community, arts and special events take place across the Horsham District throughout the year. Visit our dedicated Events page for more details.
