Awards success for Horsham District Food and Drink producers

Horsham District's food and drink industry took home more than half of the prizes on offer at the 2015 Sussex Food and Drink Awards.

The ninth Sussex Food and Drink Awards were dominated by Horsham District as our growers, makers and sellers took home five of the eight available awards and five of the 12 runners-up places.

The district's farmers' markets did particularly well, with Steyning winning for the first time and Horsham taking a runners-up place. Horsham also took "gold and silver" in the Young Chef of the Year category, with Tim Sheed from South Lodge's the Pass restaurant taking the top spot and Dan Cotton of the Crabtree a runner-up.

Horsham District took both the top awards for best producer, with Cocoa Loco winning for food and Wobblegate taking the drinks category. A C Coughtrey in Pulborough rounded out the awards for Horsham by winning Butcher of the Year.

The remaining runners-up were the Goring family of Wiston Estate and Charlie Hughes of Southview Farm in the Farmer of the Year award, and Charlie's Farm Shop at Southview Farm in the food shop category. There was also success for two Horsham Food and Drink Festival participants from outside the district, with Rushfields Farm Shop winning best food shop and Zari Restaurant and Lounge a runner-up in the Eating Experience category.
