Success By Our Local Businesses In Winning Olympic Contracts Brings An Inevitable Boost To The Local Economy

As suppliers to the Games, Sussex and Surrey businesses in the Gatwick Diamond have been forging ahead with at least 450 contracts being awarded, worth millions of pounds.

In respect of athlete preparations, the area will play host to 36 pre-Games training camps.  Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre near Horsham, for example, has been chosen as the pre-Games training camp for athletes from Grenada, whilst K2 in Crawley is hosting athletes from Barbados, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic as well as the Finnish Paralympic team.

In Slinfold, near Horsham, one company already enjoying Olympic success is Cordek Ltd.  The company was commissioned to make parts for the diving boards at the Aquatic Centre inLondon.

Another Gatwick Diamond company to benefit is the Arora Hotel Gatwick which will be welcoming athletes and their families.  Hotel manager Jan Lensen says:

"I think in terms of financial impact, it is probably worth around half a million pounds to the hotel when taking into account Olympic and Paralympic training camps, participating athletes, spectators, performers and future related business.

"The Games are likely to bring a significant economic legacy to the Gatwick Diamond."
